![]() I learned the “cowboy” chords first then once a I got comfortable switching chords I learned the power chord and half assed it for a long time. ![]() I had a few song books and chord charts and it felt like it would never feel natural. I had so many false starts I can’t even remember. The first year is when a lot of people give up because learning to play an instrument is difficult. Messi is probably th best footballer in the world, but is probably terrible in goal!įinally, DON'T WATCH YOUTUBE VIDEOS, it is tempting, but you need to be on your own and get into a state of flow. You will never "complete" the guitar (i have been playibg 20 years and i still can't do everything), so you need to focus on playing what you want to play. You will end up having more fun, you will "accidentally" pick up a bunch of skills on the way and you will get to feel good about playing something you like the sound of. Try to persevere with that one piece, and don't feel bad about picking something very simple. Instead, pick something simple that you like the sound of and practise it, practise one or two bars at a time, and focus on the things you are having trouble with through concentration and repitition (a lot of repitition) and be sure to listen as you do (a lot of people forget that bit). It is the least fun, and will make you dread practise (therefore ruining the whole objective). Whilst this is a way to learn, normally in combination with other things. I would just like to add, from your description it sounds like you are making yourself do a bunch of boring exercises.
